Chesterton Ballet School
The school has been established here in the Chesterton area since 1974 when Ms Susan Pocock MNATD (Hons.) started the school in St. Andrew's Church Hall,
Chapel St. Since then there have been many pupils who have taken part in all the local events, shows at the Mumford Theatre and West Road Concert Hall over the years. Many of these pupils have also gained good marks for all their NATD ballet exams.
We also raise funds from our dance displays for the East Anglian
Childrens' Hospice at Milton.
Our Maypole Dancing Display has been in existence for quite a few years now and we have also taken part in performing for many residential homes in and near to the Chesterton area and continue to do so if our schedule allows.
All ballet classes are held in St George's Church Hall, Chesterfield
Road, on Saturdays only and if you wish to find out about whether your son/daughter would like to join the Ballet School
please contact 'Miss Sue' via the website:
http://www.chestertonballetschool.co.uk for further details. Any pupils aged between 3yrs - 30 years are most welcome to come along and
try out a FREE TRIAL LESSON next Autumn as the Primary, Grade 1 & 2 pupils are working for their exams at the moment.
The Ladybirds
'The Ladybirds' is an all-female six-piece jazz band, consisting of sax, voice, guitar, bass, piano and drums. Half of us are based in or near Chesterton, and we've been performing in the Cambridge area and beyond for nearly ten years, playing at weddings, civil partnerships, birthday parties and community events, as well as doing regular evenings in local pubs. Our most memorable gig so far has been a village festival in Dorset where we were lodged for the night in a stately home, and then paid in cake! For more information or to book the Ladybirds, email Alison at alisonbinney@hotmail.com or visit our My Space webpage: http://www.myspace.com/ladybirdsjazzband.
The Orlando Singers
Who We Are
The Orlando Singers is a chamber choir of twenty or so voices, based in Cambridge (England). The choir's repertoire ranges from the 15th century to contemporary works.
Musical director: Peter Horley
Where We Came From
The Orlando Singers was founded in 1976 by a group of friends, still represented in the choir today. The choir's name was inspired by the composers Orlando Lassus and Orlando Gibbons, whose music figured in the group's first concert, and by the urgent need to go to press with the programme notes!
The choir rehearses in St. Andrew's Church Hall, Chesterton on Thursday evenings, 8:00 to 9:45 pm during term time, and performs three or more concerts each year, making use of the abundance of fine venues in and around the town and the colleges of Cambridge.
Here is the choir during our performance at Jesus College Chapel, Cambridge.
